Halloween in the SEC

Last week, UGA had a bye. I did too. To be honest, I didn't feel like writing, so I didn't write. Well, this Saturday is Halloween, and things are getting scary in the SEC. Mark Richt takes his 4-3 Bulldogs down to Jacksonville, where Georgia will face its most sinister foe, the Florida Gators.

Georgia has had two weeks to prepare for this game, but the Gators have a Heisman trophy winner at QB and a defense that actually laces up their boots. As painful as it is to say, Florida will destroy my Dawgs. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 kickoff on CBS.

A couple hours earlier, you might be able to catch Ole Miss @ Auburn. The game starts at 12:21 on the SEC Network and ESPN360.com. This could be a good one. I'm picking the traveling Rebs to pick up the victory at Jordan-Hare. Why? They've got Dexter McCluster.

Mississippi State goes to Lexington to take on the Kentucky Wildcats at 7 PM on ESPN360.com. Dan Mullen's Dogs showed a lot of potential, as they stayed within striking distance of the champs last week. But, Florida won the game 29-19. The potentially good Dogs are currently 3-5. These Bulldogs have garnered victories over 2-5 SWAC school Jackson State , 2-6 Vandy, and Middle Tennessee State, who is 3-4 on the year. Looking at their resume' is very therapeutic for this Dawgs fan. It may be a tough year for my Dawgs, but at least they're not these dogs.
Kentucky wins 27-14.

Also at 7 PM, Eastern Michigan travels to Arkansas. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU. No need for a pick. We all know who's gonna win this one.

Back to games that count... Tennessee hosts Sloth Carolina at 7:45 PM on ESPN and ESPN360.com. Spurrier needs another big win, just as much as Lane Kiffin needs humility. Gamecocks win.

ACC power, Georgia Tech travels to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores at 7:30 on ESPN360.com. Tech wrecks 'em... bad. This one won't be close.

Almost forgot the LSU Tigers. The Golden Band from Tigerland will be celebrating all night long. LSU crushes Tulane at 8 PM on ESPN360.com.

In closing, let's talk about THE game this weekend. What's your favorite Georgia-Florida moment?

1. Go Gators.

2. What are your thoughts bout spikes eye gouging incident?

3. UF has clinched the SEC east, and assuming Alabama wins the west, who do you think wins that game?
Both teams are sporting stingy defenses that punish opponents. Both offenses are still trying to find themselves.

4. If TCU, Boise, and Cincy go undefeated, along with Texas, and winner of SEC, do either of the first three mentioned even have an argument to play in the national championship?if so, who has best argument and why?

Say Texas gets a loss, or both SEC teams gets a loss, do one of the undefeated teams move up or a 1-loss team that has played tougher competition and only loss came from a highly ranked opponent?

850,

1. No comment.

2. I don't understand why anyone, let alone a player the caliber of Brandon Spikes would resort to such a sickening tactic. That was completely classless, uncalled for, and disturbing. The University of Florida boasts one of the best collegiate programs in the entire nation. It's sad to see someone representing them and their great fan base act in such a ('scuse my language) piss poor manner. Urban Meyer stated, "That's not the type of person Brandon Spikes is...and it's not the kind of thing we encourage at the University of Florida." Well, I belive the latter, but Spikes' actions speak for themselves. In my opinion, #51 proved himself to be a sadistic piece of trash. There's nothing he or his coach can say to change my feelings. I believe his actions. Although this player is an incredible talent on the football field, his character has been forever stained.

3. Bama vs UF in SEC CG? Florida has Tebow. Bama don't. Gators would win the rematch. But, LSU might have something to say about this scenario on Saturday. Don't count out the Les Miles led Tigers in the West.

4. Cincinnati has the best argument. None of them are worthy, but the Bobcats sport the coolest uniforms. Not the best analysis, but that's all I got at the moment. The SEC Champ will always play for the BCS title. In today's game, that has become the standard. Doesn't matter if the SEC rep has 2 losses (LSU 2 years ago) or 1 (Florida- even though they lost to a lousy Ole Miss squad last year).

But, 1 loss would knock Texas out of the title picture, especially this late in the season. Is that fair? Who cares?
The SEC is King. If other schools don't like it, then their champs need to man up and prove that they belong. Until that happens, the SEC Champ will always get the nod over "better record" teams from inferior conferences.

Good to hear from you. You asked some very good questions. Tell the family I said hello.
P.S. What are your thoughts on the questions above?

Go Dawgs!

1. GO GATORS !

2. It's sad, it really is. However, someone has more than likely taught him to use those tactics. Also, I do not think people realize how often this dirty play happens. I, by no means, condone the action, but as an athlete of many sports can tell you that it happens, and happens a lot without the knowledge of the coaches/fans/officials. Unfortunately, I have to admit that I myself have lowered my standards and participated in such poor character. It is something that is very serious and needs to be addressed as well as severely punished when caught.

3. IT's official, UA vs UF december 5th in Atlanta. I think it will be a great matchup, and think that UF will triumph because of more experience and consistency in play.

4. I agree that Cincy has the best argument, and I feel bad for the other teams, but I do not want to see a small conference team playing for a national title. I'm glad the somehow Ohio State is finally not in the picture, but unless schools are consistently playing ranked teams, then they dont deserve a shot at the title.

I'm hoping for a UF vs Texas title game and Alabama vs. USC/Oregon matchup. This year can be great opportunity to match up top teams against the SEC.
