2009 Unkind

For University of Georgia fans, the newly born year of 2009 has already created much stress, anxiety, and fathered a few profanity laced tirades. The Dawgs finished the regular season with a nauseating loss to in-state "rival," the georgia institute of technology. If that wasn't bad enough, 2009 All-American and Heisman caliber athletes, Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno decided to end their red and black careers and "pursue their childhood dreams of playing in the NFL." Due to their departures, it's safe to say that UGA will definitely not be next year's pre-season #1 college football team. After the way this recent season unraveled, that could be a blessing. However, the Dawgs must play with more discipline, team chemistry, and a defense capable of wrapping up, then tackling ball carriers in order to avoid a dismal 2009. So far, it ain't looking good. Although spring practice is over 3 months away, 13 injured Dawgs will be out until the fall. To many, this may seem like no big deal. But, under the leadership of coach Richt, players are closely evaluated, as future PT is often determined during this crucial portion of the off season.

For more unkindness, we now focus on NCAA basketball. On January 14, South Atlanta star Derrick Favors decided to spend his collegiate career in Craplanta. The 6-9 phenom is regarded by ESPN as the #2 basketball prospect in the nation. With his list narrowed down to Georgia, georgia tech, and N.C. State, the incredibly talented Favors finalized his decision to become a yella jacket. Although he is likely to spend just one year in college, Favors could have become a pivotal piece in the elevation of Georgia Bulldogs basketball. Instead, he'll wear old gold and compete for the north avenue trade school on the flats. As the saying goes, "we could of been a contender." Oh well, there is some good news today. No Dawgs were arrested. Maybe '09 ain't that bad after all!
