South Carolina Vs NC State

The 2009 college football season has officially begun. It's early, but Sloth Carolina leads NC State 7-0. After they stopped Sloth Carolina's first drive of the game, NC State took possession of the ball. Unfortunately, the Wolfpack didn't hold onto it very long. On the first play from scrimmage, RB Toney Baker got blasted by a Gamecock defender, and put the ball on the turf. Sloth Carolina DB, Darian Stewart recovered the fumble. Then, Sloth Carolina ran right through the Wolfpack defense for a cheap score.

Following the gift TD, NC State went 3 and out. The Sloth Carolina special teams unit blocked the ensuing punt. But, after an offensive interference penalty nullified a Sloth Carolina touchdown, the Gamecocks were forced to punt. NC State took the field from their own 20. Russell Wilson and company looked a bit shell shocked. At the moment, NC State is LUCKY to be trailing by just 7 little points.

As I'm typing these words, NC State just missed a huge gain on 3rd and short. Sloth Carolina safety, Devonte Holloman (True Freshman) made a nice play on the ball to break up a long pass from Russell Wilson to a Wolfpack WR, whose name I don't remember. 1st quarter is history. South Carolina 7. NC State 0. Stephen Garcia just got sacked on 3rd and 18. But the Gamecocks downed a 51 yard punt inside the 5 yard line.

To be honest, I would love to see this game go to 25 overtimes. That won't happen, but UGA plays Sloth Carolina on September 12 in Athens.

I'll be posting updates throughout the remainder of this game. Check the comments section for more details.

Forget to mention, that before the game, the AFCA got their nice little "sportsmanship gesture" as both teams shook hands without any altercations. I should have put that one on the Who Cares list. It's FOOTBALL!! Outside sources need to get out of the way and let the teams play.

NC State WR Jarvis Williams almost made an electrifying catch, but the ball bobbled out of his hands. Would have been a tough catch. But, sometimes you have to make those kind of plays.
7-0 Sloth Carolina. Russell Wilson just got sacked by Eric Norwood to end the 1st half.

Just watched the first of many annoying "Dr. Lou" installments on ESPN. Holtz will continue to make half times excruciatingly long throughout the college football season. Next time, I'll change the channel. 2nd half of Sloth Carolina vs NC State should be starting soon. Feel free to post your comments and updates on the blog.

Sloth Carolina is driving deep into NC State territory. From the Wolfpack 20, Stephen Garcia just hurdled his way down to the 13.

Sloth Carolina just missed a very short FG attempt. NC State is barely hanging on. Somehow, the score is just 7-0 Sloth Carolina.

HUGE interception by NC State. DE Michael Lemon just fell down and picked off a Stephen Garcia pass. But, the NC State offense still looks lost.

Passs Interference call on Sloth Carolina gives the Wolfpack their first glimpse of momentum. But, can they sustain a drive?

Looks like they can. 15 yard pass to Owen Spencer gets NC State to the S Carolina 30. QB Wilson followed that play with a 4 yard run for his life. State must score on this drive.

I spoke too soon. Darian Stewart stuffed Wilson on third down. But, Josh Jackowski nailed a 43 yard FG. NC State is on the board. Maybe that will settle some nerves on the offensive side of the ball for the Wolfpack.

7-3 S Carolina with 55 seconds left in 3rd quarter.

Correction on the NC State kicker. Last name is spelled Czajkowski. Can't blame me for messing that one up! End of 3rd. S Carolina is at their own 45 and driving.

NC State has a nice drive going. True Freshman RB James Washington is running through some big holes. The kid from Orlando looks good. The guys from ESPN are concerned that the S Carolina D is starting to get worn down. Supposedly, the Gamecocks don't have much depth on the front 7. Although they're talented, the S Carolina D doesn't look like the same unit that was dominating the first 3 quarters of this game. Score is 7-3 as the Wolfpack contine to drive the ball into Sloth Carolina territory.

I may have jinxed the Wolfpack. Facing 4th and 8 from the Sloth Carolina 42, NC State just punted. Fair catch caught at the 14 yard line. Thought the Pack had something going on that drive. They seemed to move the ball really well, until a well timed South Carolina timeout.

Great return by NC State on a low Carolina punt. Refs failed to call a 15 yard face mask penalty. Dorian Stewart tackled the NC State return man by his chin strap. That could have been huge. But, there does appear to be a pass interference penalty on the Gamecocks. NC State has the ball on the Sloth Carolina 30 with 3:36 left. 7-3 S Carolina. Jay Smith almost made an incredible TD reception. The ball bounced off his chest, arms, and hands. What a missed opportunity for NC State.

Russell Wilson sacked at the 34 yard line with 3:11 left. It will be 4th and 11, when play resumes.

NC State going for it. A lot of pressure forces Wilson to throw on run. Pass broken up by Stephon Gilmore. The South Carolina freshmen have played great in this game.

Sloth Carolina will win the game. NC State has no timeouts left. 2:33 left. 1st down for the Gamecocks. They'll run out the clock. Their only score was that cheap TD in the 1st quarter. But, the Sloth Carolina defense dominated the Wolfpack offense. That is the difference in the game. Freshmen Jarvis Giles (RB) and Stephon Gilmore (DB) look like they are ready for the upcoming challenge of SEC football.
