Francouer Returns

As Jeff Francouer arrived at Turner Field this afternoon, he must have felt strange, walking into the visitor's locker room. I don't know what's worse, having to sit in the visiting dugout or having to wear a NY Mets uniform. Probably the latter. (As I'm writing this, Yunel Escobar just launched a BOMB. 1-0 Atlanta). But, a change of sceneray could be a good thing for the former Parkview Panther. (Garrett Anderson just went deep. Back to back HRs for the Braves. 2-0 Atl in 2nd inning). It will be interesting to follow his career with the hated Mets. How many big hits will Francouer deliver against his hometown Atlanta Braves? I hope he does well, just not at Atlanta's expense.

Good luck Jeff and welcome home...sort of.

Martin Prado caught stealing. McCann will lead off 4th, when Atlanta comes up to bat.

Braves update:
Louis Castillo led off the NY 4th with an infield hit. David Wright also singled, as the Mets executed a flawless hit and run. With runners on 1st and 3rd with 0 outs, Gary Sheffield hit an RBI single to make the score 2-1 Atlanta. Jeff Francouer grounded out to 1st, but Wright was able to score from 3rd. The former Brave picked up a game tying RBI.

With 1 out and Sheffield on 2nd, Matt Murphy delivered an RBI double to give NY a 3-2 lead.

Frustrating 4th for Derek Lowe, who had not allowed a hit before Castillo started the inning with a cheap one.

Inning over. 3-2 bad guys. McCann will lead off for Atlanta in the bottom of the 4th.

Braves update:
McCann scored from 1B on a triple by Matt Diaz with 2 out in 4th. Braves catcher jammed his left hand on the spikes of Mets catcher, Brian Schneider, as he barely beat the tag at home plate. Looks like McCann is alright. 3-3 going into the 5th.

I wish Frenchy the best and hope his career picks up else ... he's always going to wonder what he might have done on the football field at Clemson.

Many have gone to route of playing baseball, only to not have it pan out as one would wish.

A few others have managed to make the decision to leave the sport and faired well at both the collegiate and pro level.

Three that come to mind are 1) Chris Wenke in college football (FSU), 2) Danny Ainge in both college (BYU) and pro basketball (Boston) and 3) Jay Shroeder (sp?) in his jump to pro football (he did play a year or two at UCLA, but his best years were with the Washington Redskins.

Yeah, there have been many multiple sport stars, but few that have gone back to college after a minor league/major league baseball career to resume a career in another sport.

May be Frenchy should give it some consideration if he has a really bad year?

That's an interesting idea. I remember Quincy Carter originally signed a LOI to play football at georgia tech. That same year, he was drafted by the Cubs. Quincy spent a few years in Chicago's minor league system, then moved on to play football for Jim Donnan's Georgia Bulldogs. Back to Francouer, I thought he was going to be an incredible talent for Tommy Bowden's Clemson Tigers. Needless to say, I was glad when he signed with the Braves instead.
Do you think they rushed him into the spotlight, before he was ready? Was there too much pressure on Francouer to perform at a high level in Atlanta?
